Kung-Fu & Hip-Hop, The Dynamic Duo Forged in the 1970s: A Perfect Mashup
In an effort to reduce costs, New York City movie theaters began featuring Kung-Fu films at a discounted price. They became a hit with the urban youth. Around the same time, Hip-Hop was born thanks to Kool Herc.
Both Kung-Fu and Hip-Hop resonated with urban minorities struggling to find their own identity. The movies displayed a non-white hero whom they could respect and emulate. The music was an original style which they could use to express themselves.
The two have been together ever since. You can still see this mashup influence today. From Afu-Ra to Wu-Tang Clan to Kendrick Lamar. So, whether you’re a fan of the music, the martial art, or both; This Dope Design Is For You. Grab your Kung-Fu & Hip-Hop Sweatshirt today!
